Your foundation typically bears the entire load of your home or business. As such, it’s critical to prepare the base of your foundation correctly in order to avoid sinking, cracking, and other long-term damage.

Island Efficient Excavating has years of first-hand experience building foundations for homes and businesses on Vancouver Island. We regularly work with our sister company (Island Efficient Homes) as well as other Nanaimo contractors and custom homebuilders.

We provide all services required for your foundation excavation and preparation needs.

Whether you’re building with an insulated concrete form (ICF) system or using more traditional methods, we can help with:

  • Excavating Digging out the area for strip footings (also known as the strip foundation) or a pad foundation
  • Backfilling Carefully done to ensure your drain tile and perimeter drains are not damaged or compromised
  • Compaction Prevents any settling of the ground around your foundation from occurring at a later time
  • Grading/Sloping Ensures that water always runs downhill and away from your foundation

It might not seem like it at first, but prepping and pouring a foundation is an exciting part of any project. Once you’re at this stage you really start seeing the shape of things to come.

Building Foundations with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF)

We regularly work closely with Island Efficient Homes, building energy- and space-efficient homes that are perfectly suited for Vancouver Island.

The energy-efficient portion of the homebuilding is born from using what’s call the ‘ICF system’. ICF stands for insulated concrete forms.

When you use ICF to form walls right to the underside of the roof trusses, your energy bills will be lower than you could have possibly imagined.
